Amdocs OSS IP/MPLS Data Migration

Client:

DonRiver was contracted to perform Amdocs development services for our client an Australian Tier 1 telecommunications provider that offers a full range of services and competes in all telecommunications markets throughout Australia, providing nearly 10 million Australian fixed line and 10 million mobile services, including over 5 million 3G services. In 2005, our client embarked on a massive multi-year IT transformation program in an effort to achieve a number of goals some of which include the following:

• Reduce the number of existing IT systems by more than 50%
• Streamline business processes
• Improve customer satisfaction
• Improve network and service inventory capabilities

The Challenge:

As part of its IT transformation program, our client selected Amdocs OSS software as the network and resource inventory application to manage the logical inventory for our client’s IP/MPLS core and edge IP networks. Due to the dozens of client legacy systems and processes in place, this effort required development of a highly complex data migration solution into the Amdocs OSS inventory application. Additionally, our client required ad hoc design and development expertise to supplement the overall programme objectives that could not be met by other Integrators.

The Solution:

As part of DonRiver's Amdocs development services we assembled a world-class delivery team of onshore and offshore professionals proficient in Amdocs OSS inventory delivery and implementation to facilitate the complex data migration into the Amdocs OSS inventory. Additionally, over time, DonRiver’s scope of work increased to include the following tasks and activities:

• Solution architecture and data migration strategy
• Legacy system data requirements and staging processes
• Legacy data mapping and modelling into the Amdocs OSS Inventory
• Test and defect management (including data quality and issue resolution)
• System administration and infrastructure support
• Amdocs OSS Inventory Configuration Management, process definition and management
• Developed numerous Amdocs inventory application prototypes to illustrate capabilities to IT and the business community
• Responsible for Amdocs OSS Inventory Configuration and Customization
• Amdocs OSS Inventory Reporting support
• Design and development of a Amdocs OSS Inventory Bulk object and attribute update solution

The DonRiver migration team completed its Amdocs development services assignment with astonishing efficiency, finishing the migration five days ahead of schedule with a data quality rate of 99.9%. As a result of this success, our client met their first major strategic network inventory milestone. In addition, our client re-engaged DonRiver to provide Amdocs development services to tackle the next Amdocs OSS Inventory data migration program as well as continue to provide SME consultancy and configuration and development solutions using the Amdocs OSS Inventory product - Resource Manager..
