Mobile Financial Services Integration

Mobile Financial Services Integration

Client:

DonRiver provides mobile financial services to Western Union a leading global financial services company specializing in international money transfers. Western Union decided to enhance its traditional “brick and mortar” remittance services with a new mobile money transfer offering. Historically their most common business offering had been “Cash-to-Cash” money transfers whereby consumers physically deposit cash with an agent and on the receiving end, cash is collected from an agent.

Their new mobile based strategy would support the transfer of money from an mWallet associated to a subscriber’s mobile phone service to either a recipient’s mWallet or agent location for collection of transferred funds.

The Challenge:

With a rapidly growing global acceptance of mobile applications and the continuing paradigm shift from brick and mortar establishments to increasingly virtual means, mobile partners continue to develop individual mobile handset applications. Western Union needed to develop a platform and integration process that would allow Mobile Network Operators and mWallet Providers to subscribe to its mobile money transfer service and offer their customers mobile remittance services.

In establishing this platform and integration process, Western Union wanted to ensure that partners could be integrated in a consistent and cost effective way that would minimize requirements support partner solutions. Furthermore, a standardized integration platform and process would ensure that regardless of the partner implementation, the end-user’s experience with any of the mobile money transfer offerings would remain consistent, predictable and repeatable.

The Solution:

The client contracted DonRiver to develop the process to integrate and support new Mobile Network Operator and mWallet provider partners. DonRiver defined the end to end partner integration process that enabled the client to empower their partners, while at the same time enabling their own resources to focus on their value-added activities for their end-users.

The Partner Integration Process provides integrating partners with the process to integrate to the client’s processes and systems to enable mobile money transfer including – the business scenarios, the process considerations, the system considerations, as well as the steps for successful implementation

The Western Union integration process DonRiver defined and implemented allows partners to efficiently and effectively integrate to the client’s mobile remittance systems and business processes as well as:

  • Defines required activity scope and partner responsibilities to become a certified mobile remittance partner
  • Specifies the technical components in the solution architecture that are required for the efficient implementation of a mobile money transfer and remittance end to end system
  • Provides implementation samples as well as business and operational considerations partners need to be cognizant of when developing integrated offerings
  • Allows partners to estimate, plan, and manage each phase of the implementation process, including Planning and Budgeting, Analysis, Design, Development, Testing, Deployment and Production Support
  • Minimize the support required to be provided to the client’s partners, as these partners will be empowered with the required information to build their own value added offerings
